About
According to the recent reports, peer to peer (P2P) traffic consumes approximately 40 percent of the bandwidth used by the internet users. Behavior based detection, also known as anomaly detection, is crucial in implementing network security. It has been observed that peer to peer traffic can have an adverse impact on the performance of anomaly detection systems (ADS). Efficiently analyzing the impact of p2p traffic on the performance of anomaly detection systems against the attacks such as TCP PortScan will help the network security experts to design the security solution for a network. It will also enhance the prevention capabilities of networks from attacks.
Project implementation will be focused on the traffic anomaly detection systems such as; Network traffic anomaly detector (NETAD) to prevent attack over the conventional benign/overlay network traffic. Further implementation and testing will be carried out in the presence of p2p traffic. Performance evaluation of the ADS with overlay and p2p traffic will help in understanding the behavior and areas of improvement for the ADS or in other words network security solutions.
